Plus, you can visit the equally captivating Helambu and the sacred Gosaikund Lake – a mecca for Buddhists and Hindus alike. One can also take a peek into Tibet.

Gosaikunda Festival Trek
Gosainkunda Lake is one of Nepal's famous and holy lakes for Buddhists and Hindus. The sacred northern lake is located approximately 4381 m northeast of Kathmandu, surrounded by the Himalayas. Besides the hill, there are other holy lakes like Surya Kunda, Saraswati Kunda, Ganesh Kunda, and Bhairav .
This sacred lake was created by Lord Shiva when he pierced the glacier with his trident to get water to quench his thirst after swallowing poison that threatened to destroy the Earth.
Above the lake is a cave where Amar Singh Thapa (the great hero) spent his last minutes. There is a half-body image of Amar Singh Thapa inside the cave.
Every year on a full moon day in August, thousands of Buddhists and Hindu pilgrims come here to worship Lord Shiva and bathe in the holy Gosaikunda lake. The shamans, "Dhami-Jhankris," perform their religious music and chant mantras (sacred prayers). According to religious beliefs, a canal carries water directly from the lake to the Kumbheshwar temple in Patan in the Kathmandu valley (60 km to the southwest).
The Hindus sing the Gayatri Mantra and change their sacred thread (Janai) for protection in Rakshya Bandhan - a red-yellow holy line tied around the wrist by call. We can see the image of Shiva with its center filled with water in this lake.
