Temple Opening time: The site is open daily from 4 am to 9 pm but is closed mid-day between 12 am and 5 pm. Visiting the temple in the early morning or evening is the best time. It takes about 90 or 120 minutes to see.
Pashupatinath Temple
Located on the banks of the Bagmati River on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu, Pashupatinath temple is one of the most revered Hindu temples in the world, and Hindu pilgrims (especially from neighboring India) enter the temple complex naturally throughout the year.
Pashupatinath is dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the three Hindu Gods, Bramha the generator, Vishnu the operator, and Mahesh, or Shiva, is considered the 'destroyer.' Temple is located on the western side of Bagmati, and the temple's main shrine is a golden spire resembling a pagoda.
The temple's main attraction when you enter is the golden Nandi or Shiva's bull. Only Hindus are allowed to join the main temple area. However, the temple can be seen everywhere from the eastern side of the river. On the east side, a stone-built tower is also dedicated to Lord Shiva, holding the symbol of Lord Shiva - Shiva's 'Lingam' or erect phallus. Also located in the park is the "Panch Deval" park (five temples), which provides shelter to the needy. Many Hindus want and choose to spend their last days on the temple grounds.
The architecture, the sacred abode, many monkeys, and the "sadhus" or ascetic priests with ashes poured on their bodies are some things that attract visitors to the temple. Still, the cremation of a human body will undoubtedly draw your attention.
The mixed smell of incense with human flesh can make your senses so strong - the sweet scent does little to mask this smell. As you walk along the eastern side of the Bagmati river, you will see rows of corpses passing through here on the other side.
Hindus strongly believe that a person cremated here will be reborn as a human again. As an added consolation for the grieving family, the Bagmati River joined the holy Ganges in the south and the Bay of Bengal - hence the epic journey of the ashes.

Cost and Entrance in Pashupatinath
Traveling to Pashupatinath and back from downtown Kathmandu by taxi will cost about $15, including the waiting fee.
Hiring a guide will cost about $10, and it is worth it since you get an overview of Pashupatinath's rituals and traditions. To enter the temple site, a foreigner must pay an entry fee of 1,000 Nepalese rupees (about US $10).
